To our Bristol Park Dental Family,
 
We truly appreciate you as part of our dental family, which is why we want to take a moment to share a challenge we’ve been facing—not just in our office, but across Vermont. As you may have noticed, finding available hygiene appointments has been more difficult, and we want to be open with you about why. This has impacted two of our offices.
 
Vermont has had a shortage of dental hygienists for many years, and the situation has become even more difficult recently. Our state has only one dental hygiene school, and it graduates fewer than 18 hygienists each year for the 350+ dental offices state wide.  Unfortunately, many of these graduates move out of Vermont. With recent changes to the program, there will be no new graduates in 2025. Additionally, the cost of hygiene education in Vermont is significantly higher than in neighboring states, making it harder to attract new professionals to our area.
 
On top of that, the impact of COVID-19 drastically reduced the hygiene workforce nationwide, and Vermont has felt it even more due to our already limited number of providers. We have been working tirelessly to recruit and bring more hygienists into our office, but the reality is that fewer than 1% of dentists move to New England, and even fewer come to Vermont.
We know this affects you, and we completely understand the frustration of having to wait longer for cleanings. Please know that we are doing everything we can to continue providing you with the care you deserve. Our incredible dentists have even stepped in to help with cleanings because we are committed to making sure you receive the best care possible.
 
We are grateful for your patience, your understanding, and most of all, your trust in us. Vermont is a special place, and we believe that by working together as a community, we can find solutions to strengthen our dental workforce and ensure continued access to care.
