Outstanding Family Dentistry

Meet the Staff

BPDstaff-3821Jim Cossaart attained his DDS degree in 1999 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry. After operating a rewarding dental office in Middlebury, Vermont for eight years, Dr. Jim and Deb moved to North Central Kansas to be closer to family and to rescue their sixth-generation cattle ranch from deterioration. While there they purchased two part-time dental offices across the border in Nebraska and developed them into successful full-time practices. In 2011 he was awarded Employer of the Year by the Nebraska Dental Hygienist’s Association.

While growing up in Indiana, Jim spent his summers helping his grandparents and uncle on the family farm in Kansas. His dream was to become a successful farmer. After attaining an Agriculture Economics degree from Kansas State University in 1978, and farming for twenty years, Dr. Jim decided he needed a new challenge. He was admitted to the prestigious UNMC program and was the oldest member of his class. At age 42 he became a practicing dentist in Vermont.

Dr. Jim recently published a memoir, called “A Piece of Kansas Soil,” about his life on the ranch. He is available for book talks and readings and is happy to sign copies between appointments.

Dr. Jim enjoys traveling back to his homestead in Kansas to keep his hand in the ranching business. He has one son, David, who lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is an avid IndyCar fan and has attended 48 annual Indianapolis 500 races. He also enjoys yoga, hiking, going to the gym, listening to his vinyl collection and writing. He loves spending time with his wife Deb and their two daughters, Emma who resides in New York City, and Sophie who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.

For the past seven years she has enjoyed working with her husband, Jim, as business and office administrator for their dental practices. She also greatly appreciated her education on the Kansas ranch where she learned how to help deliver calves, fix fences and dig thistles. Here in Vermont Deb loves hiking, dancing, reading and traveling. She and Jim are proud new grandparents of little Elliot Theodore who lives in Brooklyn with his parents.
